The Lowther Hotel
Built in 1824 as the first permanent building of the new port town, the Lowther's Georgian mural room still stops first-time guests in their tracks.
Opened in 1824 as the port town took shape around it, the Lowther has stood beside Goole’s docks for two centuries and trades on its claim to be England’s oldest hotel. The Grade II-listed Georgian building now operates as a boutique hotel with a dozen individually styled bedrooms, a bar and bistro, and function rooms used for weddings and conferences. Breakfast is served from 7am each morning (8am on Sundays), and the celebrated mural room — with its early painted views of the port — remains the building’s showpiece.
